Key Features of TRIBE

TRIBE is built to provide a holistic understanding of traditional medicinal plants by incorporating five major information categories:

Therapeutic Search Module: Enables users to search for plants based on medicinal uses, state-wise availability, local names, parts used, and associated ethnic groups. This is useful for understanding how specific communities utilize plants for treating ailments.

Phytochemical Search Module: Allows exploration of plants based on the presence of specific phytoconstituents and plant parts. This is highly beneficial for pharmacological and biochemical research.

Phytochemical Structural Information Module: Offers detailed structural data on plant-derived chemicals including molecular formula, weight, complexity, and identifiers like InChI, SMILES, and IUPAC names.

Taxonomy, Biodiversity and Genomic Search Module: Presents taxonomic classifications such as phylum, class, order, family, and genus, along with biodiversity information like red list status, habitats, population trends, and WGS (Whole Genome Sequencing) references.

Unified Search Module: Provides a comprehensive search functionality across all datasets using a single scientific or common plant name, displaying integrated results from botanical, phytochemical, and taxonomic domains.

About TRIBE

India is home to a rich and diverse biodiversity, with countless plant species that have been integral to traditional medicine for centuries. Many of these plants have been utilized by saints and tribal communities as natural remedies to treat various diseases. However, the twin challenges of human activities and climate change pose a significant threat to this invaluable heritage, risking the disappearance of some plant species.

TRIBE ,a comprehensive database, is dedicated to cataloguing the traditional medicinal plants of India, particularly those found in the North-East region. Our mission is to document, preserve, and pass down the profound knowledge of these plants and their medicinal properties—knowledge that has been safeguarded and utilized by local healers and indigenous communities for generations.

With TRIBE, students, researchers, scientists, herbalists, and enthusiasts can access a wealth of information, including detailed botanical characteristics, traditional uses, chemical composition, and potential therapeutic applications of medicinal plants.

Current Scope of TRIBE

  • 899 identified medicinal plant species from the North-East region of India.

  • 285 whole genome sequences of plants , facilitating deeper insights into their genetic blueprint.

  • 31,449 unique phytochemicals identified in 192 plants, providing a robust resource for chemical and pharmacological studies.
